The idea for this meeting arose out of a puzzlement of how students can figure out which journals fit their research, writing, and publishing interests. This is the problem. Since graduate students typically are very busy, they lack the free time to explore various journals and assess them. This is the cause. The solution is editors come to students instead of the other way around. The way is the Students Meet Editors event. In this project editors come to students, each editor explains features of the journal they represent, and editors encourage students to ask their questions. The objective of the project is to help students start the process of finding a way to fit their interests to specific journals.
